Pae Manaaki | Manaaki Desks

You’ll find Pae Manaaki | Manaaki Desks across the building, including near the main entrance on the Ground Level. Our friendly team can help you with a wide range of support and services.

A

  • Accessibility car parks | Tūnga Waka Hauā

  • Accessible car parks are located in Te Tūāpapa | Basement, providing step‑free access via internal lifts to all public levels.

  • Accessible toilets | Wharepaku Whaikaha

  • Accessible toilets are available on every level of Te Matapihi ki te Ao Nui

B

  • Bike parking | Tūnga Pahikara Kaimahi

  • Secure bike parking is available in the Te Tūāpapa | Basement, with lift access to all public levels above. Bike parking is also available at street level outside entries on Victoria and Harris Streets.

  • Book issues

  • Borrow library items using the WCL Mini app, self issue machines (available on all levels) or with help from library staff at our Pae Manaaki | Manaaki Desks.

  • Book returns

  • Return library items on the Te Papa Whenua | Ground using the book returns slot to the side of Kōpurawhetū Tomokanga | Victoria Street entrance.

C

  • Café

  • Central Ground Café offers food and drinks, with comfortable seating for relaxing or meeting others. It is available at the Te Ngākau Civic Square end of Te Papa Whenua | Ground.

  • Caregivers’ room | Te Rūma Kaitiaki

  • A private space for caregivers, with facilities to support feeding, changing, and resting with pēpi - adjacent to Taiwhanga Tamariki | Children’s Space on Te Papa Whenua | Ground.

  • Digitisation stations

  • Equipment for digitising photos, documents, and other personal materials will soon be available in Tō Tātou Pōneke, on Te Papa Tuarua | Level 2.

  • Exhibitions

  • Rotating exhibitions showcasing art, stories, and taonga, including gallery and window spaces throughout the building. See our Exhibitions page for more information

  • Gaming screen

  • A gaming screen is available in the Rangitahi | Youth space on Level 2.

I

  • Interfaith room | Te Whare Whakapono

  • A quiet, inclusive space for reflection, prayer, and contemplation, open to people of all faiths and beliefs, is available for use on the Te Papa Waenga | Mezzanine level. Ask at Pae Manaaki | Maanaki Desks for access.

  • Local history and archives

  • Lockers | Ngā Raka

  • Short‑term lockers are available for storing bags and personal items during your visit.

  • Low sensory room | Te Whaitua Mārū

  • A calm, low‑stimulation space with soft lighting and furnishings, designed for visitors who need a quieter environment, located on Te Papa Whenua | Ground. Ask at Pae Maanaki | Manaaki Desks for access.

  • Makerspaces | Ngā Te Whaitua Auaha

  • Hands‑on creative spaces with tools, equipment, and workshops for making, learning, and experimenting, located on Te Papa Tuatahi | Level 1. Learn more on the Makerspaces page.

  • Meeting rooms | Ngā Hui

  • A range of bookable meeting rooms in different sizes across the building. See our Find or book your spaces page for more information.

  • Nōku te Ao - Capital E

  • Play‑based learning spaces and programmes for tamariki and whānau, delivered by Capital E. Learn more on the Nōku te Ao page.

  • Oral history recording

  • Facilities and support for recording oral histories and personal stories. See the Tō Tātou Pōneke team at the Maanaki service desk on Te Papa Tuarua | Level 2.

  • Tūnga Waka Pēpi | Buggy Parks provide dedicated pram parking near family‑focused areas of the building.

  • Public Computers (printing, scanning, copying) |Ngā Rorohiki Tūmatanui

  • Free public computers with access to printing, photocopying, and scanning services. Learn more on the Library Services page.

  • Reading room | Rūma Pānui

  • A managed quiet reading space for research, focused study, and access to heritage materials. Located in Tō Tātou Pōneke | Our Wellington on Te Papa Tuarua | Level 2.

  • Record players

  • Listen to vinyl records using in‑house record players and the library’s music collection on Level 2.

  • Drinking fountains and water refill stations are available throughout the building for bottles and drink containers.

  • Free Wi‑Fi

  • Free public Wi‑Fi is available across all public spaces in Te Matapihi. Use WellyWiFi to access, after accepting the terms and conditions of use.
